Overview

The deadlift is a compound exercise where a loaded badbell is lifted off a dead point on the ground; that's where the name came from.

The movement is complete when the bar reaches the hips while the torso is perpendicular to the floor.

The deadlift is the master of all lifts, hands down.

It delivers a whole lot of benefits that you can't get altogether from any isolation exercise alone.

It recruits almost every possible muscle you can think of and that makes it one of the greatest exercises for fat burning as well as muscle building.

The Deadlift is a Fat Destroyer

The fat burning process is mainly driven by the level of activity in relation to the caloric intake (Keeping in mind that where the calories come from is as important).

Other factors also come into play like hormones, sleep and stress; but since physical exercise has a lot to do with regulating these, I'll stick to the benefit of exercise (The deadlift in this case)

The fact that the deadlift is a compound movement that requires the whole body to perfom it, means more energy is expended in this exercises than any other. Therefore, more calories are burned.

Of course burning more calories means nothing if you have a terrible diet where most of your calories come from unhealthy sugars and fats.

It also makes no point if your eating is not under control. Having less carbohydrates and more healthy fat than you normally would take (Keto diet) makes your body burn fat during this big lift for energy.

The button line is that you can't burn the same amount of calories doing accessory isolated movements even following that same diet (Replacing carbs with healthy fats)

Other Benefits of the Deadlift

The deadlift is a great mass builder. If you're looking to add size, then I would definitely recommend you incorporate the deadlift in your workout routine.

This is a heavy lift that boosts your testosterone

Testosterone is cruicial for building muscle mass, reducing your stress hormone (Cortisol) and improving your mood in general, and even helping you experience a better sleep.
